| Katie's fascination with food began with her first taste of artichoke at age five. Katie was equally intrigued and delighted with her discovery of pomegranates later that same year. She has been enamored with the beauty & mystery of food ever since. After college, graduate school, a ten-year dalliance in international business and food-focused adventures that took her to Europe, Latin America, Africa and across North America, Katie officially entered the world of food styling in 2003: joining together her passion for food, her love of photography and her keen interest in other cultures.
As an apprentice at
Citizen Cake, Katie was inspired to formalize her pastry education at
Tante Marie's Cooking School.
She gained further experience on special projects that included recipe testing, filming television pilots and catering private dinner parties and events with talented San Francisco chefs. Her experience working with
Traci des Jardins,
Cat Cora,
Elizabeth Falkner,
Michael Recchiuti,
and
Daniel Patterson
encouraged Katie to pursue a career in food styling. She brought all of her professional skills to the premiere season of Bravo TV Network's
Top Chef,
as Culinary Producer. In 2008, Katie was invited to compete in the first-ever
Food Network Challenge
for food stylists and emerged the winner.
An award-award-winning food stylist,
Katie is based in San Francisco and works throughout the Bay Area, New York, Los Angeles, nationally and internationally. She brings her enthusiasm for raw ingredients and focus on fresh, modern food to a broad range of projects, including editorial, commercial, packaging, television and catalog. Katie is always ready for adventure and available for travel.
Katie's local and national professional affiliations include the
International Association of Culinary Professionals,
San Francisco Professional Food Society,
Baker's Dozen
and
Slow Food USA.
